Mauritius will always surprise you. As if its beautiful beaches and unparalleled hospitality were not enough, Mauritius also boasts superb hunting grounds over which the Rusa Deer (Cervus timorensis) has reigned supreme for over four centuries.

Domaine de Yemen

Of all the hunting grounds in Mauritius, the Domaine de Yemen is undoubtedly the largest, most spectacular and most well stocked with game. Yemen stretches over 4.000 hectares of forests and savannas across the flanks of the Rempart and Trois mamelles mountains, all the way to the Black River Gorges.
Within these superb dry forests, palpably thick with African arrogance, live majestic herds of stag as well as hundreds of wild boars, hares and guinea fowl. Renowned for the quality of its hunting and the professionalism of its guides, Yemen offers several types of hunting to those willing to try old traditional hunting styles in a truly exceptional setting.

Traditional Hunting

Traditional hunting of Mauritius, complete with dogs and beaters. Hunters are assigned to fixed elevated individual posts usually positioned within a tree. The beat lasts 3 to 4 hours and is preceded by a welcome snack and followed by a hunting lunch in the pure Mauritian tradition. For big game hunters, Mauritian beater hunting, ‘Tioula’, is undoubtedly amongst the most exciting that can be experienced today and intended for those capable of handling the kind of adrenaline rush only beater hunting can provide. This type of hunting is completely safe for both hunters and the beaters. The beater hunting season runs from June to September.
